“Cabbage” in the sewing world is a nice way to say “garbage,” which are the scraps that a person would normally throw out when their project was done. However, let’s say you never threw them out. Could you do anything with all that cabbage?

Sure you can! Any sewist’s kit wouldn’t be complete without a pin cushion, and a little scissor apron for your machine. I’ve had this cherry fabric for something like 8 years, because it’s pink, and cute, and reminds me of the frosted cherry poptarts from when I was little. But the cherry fabric is not the cabbage here, it’s what’s inside the pincushion!
I made the scissor apron earlier, and didn’t take process shots of that, but it’s essentially a quilted rectangle with pockets. The pincushion however, began life as a jar of Palmer’s cocoa butter that I emptied out. Amazingly, the sticker peeled right off with no residue! I highly recommend it for that reason alone (but also the smell and consistency is just great).
Then I measured the depth so I could know how much felt I needed to cover the base.
Felt was then applied with the assistance of its good friend, hot glue.
Now comes the tough part. I guessed at how big the top should be by tracing a huge plastic ring onto the fabric. I then did a huge basting stitch to see how it would fit around the lid once I hot glued it down. Once I was satisfied with the look, it was time to stuff it with some . . . say it with me: cabbage!

As you can see, I finished it off with some braided ribbon, which covered the uneven edges of the felt!
Admittedly, this was a quick and easy refashion (if you can call it that) because I had to get packing for a trip! My boyfriend and I drove to Canada to celebrate our anniversary, and got to play a few escape rooms while we were there! We also met up with friends in Montreal for ice cream, who all happen to write for the Room Escape Artist Website . If you like puzzles, board games, and escape rooms, check out their site!
So anyway, that’s the creative thing I released into the world this week– but I still have more cabbage to use up, so stay tuned!
Also, I’d like to introduce . . .
Silly Picture of the Week!
This was actually from Easter weekend, when my boyfriend’s fam came over for lunch. Within seconds of opening the tablecloth, these two were already implementing its destruction. This particular pic makes it look like I have just one cat whose head has warped through the space-time continuum. Perhaps the dollar store accidentally sold me the fabric of reality. Either way, it didn’t make it to lunch.
